Original Medicare is a fee-for-service health plan for people age 65 and over or under 65 on disability. Original Medicare has two parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance).

Medicare Advantage Plans are an alternative to Original Medicare. They are health insurance plans offered by private insurance companies that are approved by Medicare.

Medicare Supplement plans help fill the "gaps" in Original Medicare. They are health insurance plans offered by private insurance companies.

There are stand-alone plans that exist outside of what Medicare typically covers such as those listed above.
